Encouragement Series Part 2: Physical Health & Immunity
Hey y’all! Welcome back to Part 2 of our series, and today we’re focusing on what we can do during these crazy times to take control of our physical health and boost our immunity!
I’m NO doctor – but I am a MOM – and I am seeing SO MANY Mamas scrambling, scared, fearful and freaking out among this Coronavirus pandemic, and I hope this list of things we’re doing can help you protect your family too! Years ago, I had a TERRIBLE immune system, and over the years I’ve slowly been able to learn how to fight off not only viruses, but all sorts of other sicknesses and issues.
(If you missed the INTRO or PART 1, they’re linked here!)
After being a mama for almost nine years now, I’ve done SO. MUCH. RESEARCH… on my family’s health.
Seriously. So much.
Here are some of the BEST and most effective ways I’ve found to protect our family through all the years.
I believe our best defense is supporting our immune systems, and obviously reducing any chance of exposure.
Through years of learning, I’ve learned that there is CERTAINLY a time and place for Medicine. BUT that does not mean that’s our only option! There are SO MANY things we can do at home to help ourselves. I don’t like to depend on others for my own health. When all this came out, I immediately went into GO-MODE to take my mind off my anxiety and to help my family. Here’s a list of what I am doing/have done to help us!
we support our immune systems
We LOVE Essential Oils! ( I use Doterra brand but YoungLiving is a good brand too! The Doterra link above is my friend Shelly’s link – if you purchase via the link, it will help support her family!)
On Guard: I roll this on our feet, and diffuse it in the air to clean it. It’s a safe mixture of immune-boosting oils! (If you roll it on directly, buy the roller or dilute with coconut oil from the store!)
Peppermint & Lemon are my favs to diffuse – they have cleaning properties but also make my house smell so FRESH! They are pretty inexpensive also.
If the girls or I start with a cough, we use Breathe on our feet or chest, and diffuse it also.
The most potent oil for when we’re sick that I have found is Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca). I use the ALL THE TIME when we’re sick. I diffuse, roll, and also will ingest via caplets if I’m fighting something hard! I’m not going to lie – I think it stinks and I don’t enjoy it – but I’m SO THANKFUL for a natural anti-viral, sanitizer, anti-septic, anti-fungal & anti-inflammatory! (Don’t ingest this one btw!!)
Several individual oils have anti-viral properties. While I’m sure no one has had time to try them specifically on COVID-19, they have eliminated viruses in the past. You can diffuse these, breathe them in, put them on your body with a carrier oil (I do our feet, backs of neck and chest typically). Do NOT apply oils directly on skin without checking – they are SO potent that they can actually harm/burn. (If y’all want more info on any of this, comment below or let me know!)
DETOXING.
I detox as much as possible! I love the company Rowe Casa Organics for these products. Getting the bad stuff out of your body helps the good to thrive. They have Immune drops that I have and use on my feet, and I alternate those with this Immune Salve. Here’s a link to all their drops. I use the hormone drops and Focus drops on my feet as well. This clay mask and these bath salts have been on my wish list!!!
SUPPLEMENT.
We take a GOOD, quality Vitamin C: 10000iu/day. A family friend told us to take 3-4 doses of this if you’ve been exposed to someone with a cold or flu virus to protect yourself. My parents will vouch for this, as it kept my dad from catching colds!
I supplement with a Vitamin D gummy if I don’t get outside enough!
FIBER. Y’all. If you don’t know if you’re getting enough of this, I have plenty of words and stories on why Fiber is SO IMPORTANT to your health and ultimately your immunity. It helps RID your body of toxins and the BAD stuff.. you need this!
We use FOOD as MEDICINE. I do my best to support my gut in what I eat, especially when I need my immune system at 100%!!
Girl, skip that sugar. Skip that processed stuff. It does NO good right now for your immune system! It can destroy it!! It’s hard, but if you’re serious about fighting off disease and viruses, you need a healthy gut.
Elderberry, Watermelon, Acai Berry, Ginger, Broccoli, Garlic, Chicken Soup (with good bone broth!!) are some of my favorites!
I love this book by Dr. Mark Hyman on using food as medicine to heal our bodies and boost our immune systems.
WE GARGLE WITH SALT WATERor Essential oils. An old remedy I saw online (can’t attest it though personally) is to drink a lot of water and gargle warm water & salt or vinegar – they say it eliminates the spread of a virus. Worth trying! Mama said Daddy Ken always had us do that when we were little, and there can be a lot of power packed in old remedies!
SILVER SOL / Colodial Silver. Before there was an argument about the efficacy of Silver Sol/ Collodial Silver, we used it as an immune booster, and I personally believe in it. I value the opinion of my grandparents because they’ve seen a LOT during their lives, and my Grandma recommended this to me for regular flu season last year after Emma got hit hard with the flu, so I started all of us on it. We did NOT get the flu this year! It is supposed to be anti-viral, antibacterial. I take a teaspoon a day for 5-7 days to build up my system, and Kaylee & I love the lozenges. I’ll link what we love to use. She ASKS for her “Silver!” It literally tastes like water.
GET SOME SUNSHINE. I did not know the sun & fresh air is a natural anti-viral! I read that in the flu pandemic of 1918, sick patients that laid in the sun recovered SO MUCH BETTER than those stuck, cooped up in shaded tents! Fresh air does WAY more than I ever knew! So get your family outside, go for a quick walk in your backyard, open some windows and keep the breeze flowing!
We’re using our time at home to work outside on projects that we haven’t been able to since we moved in! We added a chicken coop last week, and we’re tilling up to plant gardens in the front of the playhouse now!
we are staying home
JUST STAY HOME, YO. We are staying home and staying as FAR away from the world we can.
We’re staying home, working on our garden! It gets us outside, gives the girls some real experience & sunshine, and we’re all learning the entire time. I am sooo excited about growing a little harvest of veggies, herbs and flowers this year!
I also linked a video in Part 1 of this series to a home disinfect/sanitize video to keep your house clean during this time, if you need direction or inspiration!
If you HAVE to go out, leave the kids at home!
Take your clothes off immediately. Don’t wear shoes in the house! Disinfect doorknobs, faucets, countertops daily.
ultimately, IF WE’RE NOT SICK, IF WE DON’T NEED VENTILATORS >> WE GIVE THE ELDERLY AND IMMUNE COMPROMISED A FIGHTING CHANCE.
We need to do our part so that the hospitals don’t become overrun and run out of resources. If our grandmas gets it – or our moms – the hospitals can be overrun and overwhelmed to the point that they can’t help them from lack of resources. Staying home is the best way we can keep all the ones we love healthy! 🙂
Love y’all! But we all need to stay home and as safe as we can, so we can all get back to our ‘normal lives’ as soon as possible! 🙂
stay home and safe friends!
I hope this helps give you some ideas on staying healthy!!
See you next time as we tackle Working at Home during a Pandemic!!
